The Service Dog Team Academy is based in Rockwall, about 30 minutes from Allen via SH-121, and we work with Allen families regularly across every program we offer. Allen is a community built around families — good schools, packed youth sports schedules, and a lot of first-time dog owners bringing home a puppy for the kids. We build our training plans with that reality in mind: real household routines, real kids in the house, real life.
Led by Valerie Fry and Keisha Tucker, our programs range from puppy training and basic obedience through full service dog training — all built on certified, positive reinforcement methods, with no e-collars, prong collars, or corrections.

What Makes Us Different in Allen
A lot of our Allen clients are families training their first dog together — which means we spend real time teaching not just the dog, but the whole household, especially kids, how to reinforce training consistently. We also see a lot of interest in manners training for dogs that come along to Watters Creek or Allen's dog-friendly outdoor spaces, where calm behavior around crowds, other dogs, and unfamiliar situations matters.
Valerie holds her KPA CTP, ABCDT-L2, AKC CGC Evaluator, and CLASS certifications. Keisha is also an AKC CGC Evaluator and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), a background that shapes how we support Allen-area veterans and clients managing PTSD or anxiety through service dog training. Both administer AKC Canine Good Citizen testing directly.

Being based in Rockwall also means we're closely tied to the local community — we're not commuting in from across the metroplex to serve you, and same-day or next-day scheduling is often easier for Rockwall clients than it is for those further out.

Do you come to Allen, or do I have to travel to Rockwall?
Both, depending on the program. In-home training sessions come directly to your Allen home. Board & Train requires drop-off and pick-up at our Rockwall facility, about 30 minutes from most of Allen via SH-121. Group classes and public access training sessions are scheduled at locations that work for both sides.
Is training different for a family’s first dog?
It can be, and we account for that. Many of our Allen clients are training their first family dog, often with kids involved in daily routines. We make sure the whole household understands how to reinforce commands consistently — not just the primary handler — since inconsistent reinforcement is one of the most common reasons training doesn’t stick at home.
Do you help with public manners for dog-friendly outings?
Yes. Calm behavior around crowds, other dogs, and unfamiliar situations is something we build into training for Allen families who want to bring their dog along to outdoor shopping areas, parks, or community events. It’s also foundational to Canine Good Citizen certification, if that’s a goal.
Do you train service dogs for Allen residents?
Yes — service dog training is one of our core specialties. We work with Allen handlers through the full training pathway: Board & Train foundation, weekly public training sessions, Canine Good Citizen certification, CGC Urban, and task-specific work. Under Texas law, Service Dogs in Training have full public access rights, so training can happen in real Allen environments early in the process.
What makes The Service Dog Team Academy different from other Allen trainers?
Both owners are certified AKC CGC Evaluators, meaning we administer official Canine Good Citizen testing directly rather than referring clients elsewhere. Co-owner Keisha Tucker is also a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, which shapes how we support veterans and clients managing PTSD through service dog training. Every program uses positive reinforcement exclusively.
How much does dog training cost in Allen?
Our pricing is the same for all DFW clients regardless of city. Board & Train is $1,950 with a $200 deposit. In-Home Training runs $150 per session or discounted packages of 3 or 5 sessions.
